Mozambique: PI Training and Cash Grants

Client: GiveDirectly

Duration: Since April 2026

Description of the Project:

We are partnering with GiveDirectly in Mozambique to adapt and implement a contextualized Personal Initiative (PI) Training as part of the ADIGR (Support for the Development of Income Generation Initiatives) project under the Social Protection and Economic Resilience Project (SPER). The project combines cash transfers with PI Training to strengthen beneficiaries’ personal agency, entrepreneurial mindset, and long-term economic resilience. In total, at least 44,000 beneficiaries are expected to be trained.

Together with GiveDirectly, INAS (National Institute of Social Action), and other stakeholders, we developed training materials tailored to the realities of vulnerable households in Mozambique, including participants with limited literacy levels. The training focuses on proactive behavior, opportunity identification, goal setting, financial planning, and overcoming barriers, while also addressing topics such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV). In addition to curriculum development, the project includes Training-of-Trainer (ToT) workshops with GiveDirectly and INAS staff in Tete, Chimoio, Beira, Inhambane, and Maputo, supervision of implementation, and qualitative research to continuously improve the training approach and maximize impact.
